How to drive on snow

Driving on snow is not easy as many think it must be given its deserved importance, we must pay attention to recommendations and we never must go on a journey without previously checking our car. We must not forget that 5 per cent of traffic accidents are due to climatology.

What do we have to check?

The estate of tyres. See if the rubbers are not plain, that they have enough depth of drawing so as to be able to evacuate water easily.
The estate of the bars and disks of brake. Braking systems become more important in winter because of the reduction of adhesiveness of the road when slamming.
The antifreeze liquid. Keep the level to the indications given by the manufacturer so as to avoid damages on the engine. After starting it is advisable to wait some time to idle (without abrupt accelerations) till the engine takes a little temperature.
Lighting. Remember that during a snowfall visibility can be reduced to less than 50 meters. Lighting in good estate will allow us to be seen by other vehicles and will facilitate driving (especially at night). In case of great snowfalls it is advisable to stop so as to remove the snow which may be accumulated on the headlights.

Widescreen. Check their estate before the arrival of winter and change them if you see that water trails are left on each wipe. With snow, water trails are greater and can distort vision completely. Add a little antifreeze on the keg of the widescreen so as to avoid freezing.
Gas tank. Try to keep it always full filling it up frequently. It will give it stability apart from autonomy for heating in case it is immobilized on route.
Warm clothes.Apart from the compulsory security equipment it is very advisable to keep room in your boot, to keep a bag containing warm clothes (gloves, socks, blanket cap) during winter.
The chains. The use of chains on mountain areas is compulsory and the police will not let you pass if you do not wear them. Try to buy them in your place of residence so as to be able to try them on dry, this way you will make sure the measure acquired is the right one and you will become familiar with its assembly. Carry the chains in the boot between November and March.
